Integrated Development and Learning, Liberia
About IDL Liberia
The Integrated Development and Learning (IDL) initiative aims to promote integrated development in rural Liberia by bringing community organizations, local government, farmers and other social groups together to plan and implement development projects, balancing social, environmental and economic considerations.
Our goal is to improve social and economic conditions in rural areas through agriculture and forest-friendly enterprise development, improved forest and land governance, and the creation of an enabling environment for all stakeholders to work together.
Our interventions build on almost a decade of work supporting communities to register their customary land rights, develop participatory land use plans, establish local land governance structures and build multi-stakeholder coalitions to coordinate implementation of the land use plans.
IDL facilitates and promotes fair partnerships between communities and private sector actors to maximize the economic benefits of resource extraction to host communities. We work with farmers and producers, small agribusinesses, forest-friendly small businesses, and other actors in the natural resource sector to improve the production, processing and trade of natural resources and agro-commodities.
We take a development approach that involves participatory planning, implementation, learning and adaptation to continuously improve the quality of our impacts.
