Work in this thematic area aims to create a pathway for local farmers to transition from subsistence agriculture to the formal economy by providing access to savings and loans through community-based options, such as Village Saving and Loan Associations (VSLAs), and enabling them to take advantage of agribusiness opportunities in their communities. The program is currently focusing on facilitating the transition of VSLAs to Credit Unions (or Cooperatives) and stimulating the growth and development of small businesses linked to sustainable agriculture production.
